good evening, and thanks for joining us for wsls 10 at six. i'm brie jackson. ripped through appomattox continue. today people are rallying to offer relief to evergreen...a small storm. wsls ten's duke carter spoke feed those impacted. mercy chefs is a non profit organization that is feeding helping with the disaster relief. and because the need is so great so many people have come here, where mercy chefs volunteers have already gone through their breakfast and lunch menu. nats of truck driving by in appomattox county off of cedar tree road you don't have to look far to see the destruction mother nature left behind. "it really knocks you down you don't know what to say," can't say anything --- except pitch in to help those impacted by the tornado. "just to help out, help out the community." paul biggio is from roanoke and 8he is here to help with clean-up efforts. others are volunteering to serve food

chefs. paul biggio/voluntee r "chicken pot pie made from "oh we love coming out," gary leblanc is the founder of mercy chefs. leblanc says they travelled from virginia beach to feed first responders, victims and anyone assisting with the relief effort. he says they expect to serve 500 people daily giving the pastor at evergreen baptist church a sigh of relief. it's because the pastor's church is the spot where people eat or take a break from helping others salvage items from the storm. gary leblanc/founde r mercy chefs "i tell everybody i say i know why i do this it brings great personal satisfaction to the mission leblanc says he started the non profit days after hurricane katrina. and since then he's fed over 1 million people. he's glad his food is now uniting people here in appomattax as the area recovers from a devastating tragedy biggio "i'm grateful to help out," the head cook here at mercy chef's says he'll be out here until the pastor tells him he is no longer needed. in evergreen, dc wsls ten. appomattox volunteer fire

organizations and agencies that are helping with the recovery. the group showed their appreciation on their facebook page saying ... "can't thank those enough for their assistance as well as the citizens of appomattox who aided us clearing paths and helping their neighbors. many heartfelt thanks to all those many folks who provided food and supplies. we appreciate your help!" parts of interstate 81 are now reopen after a single car crash in rockbridge county. it happened around 12:30 this afternoon near mile marker 194.. as you can see here roads are now clear... but were blocked for several hours while police handled the crash. a median and then struck a few trees. flown to a hospital. no word on their conditions. their names have not yet been released. state police are investigating a deadly crash in rockbridge county. 60. crash. police continue to investigate this incident.

information becomes available. the suspect in an officer involved shooting in roanoke county has died. according to a roanoke county spokesperson, the suspect died last night at the hospital. his identity has not yet been released. this shooting happened friday night near the walgreens at brambelton avenue and electric road. details remain limited, but one witness spoke with wsls ten about the shooting. thomas gill / witness "i was coming out of kroger ..... ambulance, fire trucks and everything else. officers were placed on administrative leave -- a normal policy following officer

officers were placed on administrative leave -- a normal policy following officer involved shootings. the incident remains under investigation. a fire damages a roanoke home it happened friday night in the 2000 block of lynn avenue southwest. roanoke fire crews arrived at the scene around 10:45 with flames and smoke coming from the home. two dogs were rescued....one died.

the fire caused close to 130 thousand dollars in damages. the cause remains under investigation. danville police are looking for a suspect who allegedly robbed a woman. it happened around 8:30 friday night near the 100 block of wesley drive. officers received a call about a robbery -- upon arrival, a female victim told authorities a man hit her in the chest. she dropped her phone and the suspect took it and ran. police say the suspect left in a white vehicle. no one was hurt. this incident remains under investigation. anyone with information is asked to call police. seven emaciated horses were rescued following an animal neglect investigation. it happened in franklin county. according to roanoke valley horse rescue the horses did not have access to water or hay and survived by eating bark off nearby trees. they say some were in bad condition. the animals were signed over to the county and brought to the horse rescue. they are now being treated and

the polls are open and the heat is on tonight in south carolina. hillary clinton and bernie sanders fought hard to win the first-in-the-south primary. and now, the final votes are coming in. wsls 10's national correspondent chance seales is live in washington. chance -- clinton seems to be in good shape. she looks strong. about 50% of democrats voting tonight -- are expected to be minorities. that's a big deal for clinton, who has won over many black women....somethin g bernie sanders hasn't been able to match, so far. still, both candidates have been

hopeful marco rubio is heading to southwest virginia. rubio will visit roanoke college sunday ... two days ahead of the march first primary. he will speak at the c-homer bast center at 8:30 p-m. we'll have full coverage of that event on our website wsls dot com or sunday night during our six and 11 p-m newscasts. donald trump's upcoming rally at radford university is causing students on both political sides to speak up. some students and graduates are obtaining as many of the free tickets as they can... but with no plans to attend or give the tickets away. they say empty seats will send a message to trump. some are planning a read- in where they will sit in the rally but read a book the entire time. others say those actions are unfair to trump supporters and those interested in what the candidate has to say. colby bender radford university i think it's a great opportunity to come and see an actual presidential candidate come to your university and make history, not matter whether you agree or disagree with him. radford university says the trump campaign will
